DEMOCRATS FOR EDUCATION REFORM STATEMENT ON CHARTER SCHOOL CONFUSION

Lowell, MA — Following the Massachusetts Democratic Party Convention today, DFER-MA State Director Liam Kerr released the following statement:

“The official platform of the Democratic Party says that Democrats will “work to expand public school options for low-income youth, including … charter schools.”

“Some speakers at today’s State Democratic Party Convention defied the Party platform, President Barack Obama, and the majority of Democratic voters who consistently voice support for expanding charter schools in areas where more school options are needed.

“Muddling the Party’s long history on school reform may be good for slogans on signs and stickers, but it’s bad for kids.”
