Former Sen. Gloria Romero has landed one of the hottest tickets this weekend: an invite to watch the Super Bowl at the White House with President Barack Obama.

Romero will join Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony, various lawmakers, Cabinet members and the Obamas watching the Green Bay Packers take on the Pittsburgh Steelers in Dallas.

Romero, who represented cities throughout the San Gabriel Valley in Sacramento until last year, said she doesn’t know why she was invited, but is excited to attend with her daughter.

Since leaving the state Senate, she has been serving as the California state director of Democrats for Education Reform, a political action committee. Obama has been a strong backer of education reform.

“I’m there to cheer on the reform team in education – in California and nationally,” Romero said, adding that without an NFL team in Los Angeles, it doesn’t matter to her which team wins.

Though Obama has a lot on his plate, including cheering on the Steelers, Romero said opportunities to discuss policy with him and other guests will likely arise.

“I’m sure those kind of issues will come up,” she said.

Romero said she would also be watching to see if the Obamas are serving healthy Super Bowl snacks.
