Helping First-Generation Students

Half of our current ERN National Policy Team members are first-generation college students whose parents immigrated to this country to seek better opportunities for their children. Hear from them about what made a difference in their own lives and what needs to be done now to ensure everyone has the same opportunity.

Janette Martinez makes clear that you probably don’t know the whole story when it comes to DACA, Dreamers, and immigration policy, and their intersection with education.

To ensure first-generation students can graduate from college, we must think about what happens in K-12, too. Check out Dana Laurens’ experiences and recommendations.

Emily Labandera shares how understanding the challenges first-generation college students face helps increase their likelihood of enrolling, graduating, and entering the workforce successfully.
