UPDATED: Florida Funding Formula Provides Additional Funding to Schools with Students in Poverty, Nonwhite Students

Education Reform Now has released an updated analysis on per-pupil funding in the state of Florida after receiving new information from the state. Chief Policy Officer and report co-author Charles Barone issued the below statement:

After reviewing data provided by Miami-Dade County Public Schools, our team had increased transparency into how Florida calculates the number of nonwhite students enrolled in their districts, specifically how suppressed subgroups—those smaller than 10 students—impact overall data trends.
It’s always a good day when we can say states are making investments in historically-underserved schools and we apologize to the Florida Department of Education for transcribing the data in a manner that didn’t accurately portray the state’s investments. We take pride in producing reliable research that can help improve outcomes for students and we appreciate having this error brought to our attention.
