On the issue of the Empire State’s impressively lackluster proposed new teacher evaluation guidelines, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo today threw a roadblock in the face of the state’s Board of Regents, urging them to go back to the drawing board to put in place a system that will “be the building blocks to greater performance in our education system.”
This is a great start and a much-needed sign of leadership from the Governor on this important issue.
The draft regulations, as they had emerged, looked like the byproduct of so much compromise that they amounted to a pile of edu-mush.
The key now, however, is to make sure the Regents don’t rubberstamp and institutionalize that mush.
