I think “whew” is the word I would use to describe how I feel as this year comes to a close. It’s been quite a busy 12 months at DFER, as we’ve worked with our colleagues at the federal, state, and local level to advance education reform-oriented candidates and policies.
So, here’s part one of the DFER highlight reel for 2011. Sit back, relax, and reminisce.
DFER Policy Briefs & Memo’s:
• DFER releases Ticket to Teach, a call to action to reform the teaching profession, which includes our recommendations to bring teacher training, recruitment, and pay into the 21st Century so that every child has access to a qualified and effective teacher;
• Creating a Winning Legislative Campaign: The Colorado Story, a case study and advocate’s checklist was published on how to develop successful legislative campaigns based on the success of Colorado;
• Teacher Voice/Teacher Choice: Teacher Satisfaction in NYC Charter Schools, an advisory memo, was authored providing an analysis of teacher sentiment on NYC charter school co-location;
• DFER published an advisory memo on our concerns and recommendations for the NCLB/ESEA waiver process;
