By Moira Cullen, DFER Colorado State Director
DFER Colorado has been busy this summer gearing up for the fall elections. Not only will the Centennial State be a key swing state in the Presidential race, we also have important upcoming legislative races that will decide who controls the Colorado House of Representatives. In late August, our advisory board will announce which legislative candidates we will support.
And, speaking of our Advisory Board, it grew dramatically this summer by adding a number of prominent community leaders in Colorado:
- Marti Awad, Vice President with the Global Wealth Management Group at Merrill Lynch;
- Lindsay Neil, Director of Children’s Affairs and Office for Education and Children for Denver Mayor Michael Hancock;
- Brooke Brown, Executive Director of the Carson Foundation;
- Patrick Byrne, Executive Director of the Byrne Foundation; and,
- Denise Maes, Director of Policy for the ACLU of Colorado.
We’ve also been busy hosting events. We had two packed fundraisers for the DFER Colorado Small Donor Committee (SDC): one in Denver with Lt. Governor Joe Garcia and another in Boulder with Congressman Jared Polis.
(You can only contribute up to $50 for the Colorado Small Donor Committee Fund, so every contribution makes a big difference. Help DFER Colorado get Democrats committed to education reform elected to the legislature and accelerate school reform. You can contribute here.)
