For more than six years, a movement of activists has been fighting for what we have described as the heart and soul of the Democratic Party on public education issues. Our party had lost its way, and for reasons we found frustrating, we had ceded political ground on important issues around school quality, equity, and the rights of students to learn. We firmly believed that Democrats had a responsibility to lead on behalf of kids.
Visionary leaders like President Barack Obama, Sen. Teddy Kennedy and others at all levels of government helped show that Democrats could, and should, be carrying this torch. We are gratified that so many activists have been willing to push these issues “within the family” of Democrats, but we know we have a long way to go. Until we get there, we will continue to canvas, fundraise, argue and make our case for pragmatic change in the public square.
With this, we want to share with you our mission: We are Democrats leading a political reform organization that cultivates and supports leaders in our party who champion America’s public school children.
We welcome you to join this fight.
