In honor of the days leading up to Election Day, we are going to feature some facts about candidates that surprised us…and we thought would also raise the eyebrows of our fellow progressive reformers fighting for our kids every day.
We thought we’d just offer a sampling of some folks who are anything but progressive, but who have somehow earned the thumbs up of their local teachers unions.

Office: State Senate, 31st District
Best known for: Her “Roses” rant
Endorsed by: The Washington Education Association
Pam Roach is running for another term in the Washington State Senate. Aside from her fiery, aggressive attitude (which explains why she was banned from the Republican Caucus for creating a hostile work environment), she is also pro-gun, against welfare, and against affirmative action. What is odd is that WEA endorsed over her Cathy Dahlquist, who is a good, rational, moderate pro-ed Republican.
