FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Statement From DFER Louisiana State Director on John Bel Edwards’ & Other Democratic Victories in Louisiana
“It’s critical that we continue making progress for the students in our state.”

Eva Kemp, DFER’s Louisiana State Director, released the following statement about tonight’s elections:

“The Democratic Party has always been one that champions opportunity for our schoolchildren. DFER Louisiana is excited to have helped elect John Bel Edwards as the first Democratic governor in Louisiana in eight years, as well as several Democratic legislators.

“It’s critical that we continue making progress for the students in our state and I’m hopeful that as a Democrat, John Bel wants to do what’s right for our students. While we may not have agreed on each issue in the past, DFER is excited to continue working with John Bel, as we build on the successes over the last several years and continue making sure that Louisiana schools work for Louisiana students.

“DFER Louisiana has had a banner inaugural year. We’re seeing kid-first Democrats being elected, like Kira Orange Jones and Jada Lewis on BESE, Representative Walt Leger and Senator JP Morrell in the legislature, who have the courage to make decisions that are in the best interest of students. Tonight, we celebrate with Governor-elect John Bel Edwards. There’s a tidal change in the party and in Louisiana. So, I’m excited about the elections in 2016, including seats for the Orleans Parish School Board and the United States Senate. We can and will continue to elect champions of the students of Louisiana.”
