Shavar Jeffries on Hillary Clinton Securing the Democratic Nomination for President

2016 Election

June 7, 2016

Following the Associated Press’ announcement that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has secured enough delegates to win the Democratic nomination for president, Democrats for Education Reform’s Shavar Jeffries released the following statement:

“We congratulate Secretary Clinton on her historic nomination and look forward to helping ensure that she becomes the next president.

“Hillary Clinton has been a lifelong champion for children and families, with an established record as a progressive education reformer.  We’ve been encouraged by many of Clinton’s statements making clear she supports public school choice for parents, higher education reform, and benchmarks for schools. President Obama has a bold, unparalleled education legacy of investing in both resources and common-sense reforms for our schools, so that one day soon every child in this country will have access to a high-quality public education, regardless of their zip code. Our country needs a President Clinton, consistent with her thirty-year record, to continue that progress.

“There’s so much at stake in the election. Our children simply cannot afford to have their futures left in the hands of Donald Trump’s Republican Party, whose platform of tossing out standards and undermining investments in our schools will ensure our kids receive an education as empty as a course from Trump University.”
