STATEMENT: DFER-Louisiana on 2016 Election Results

Louisiana

November 13, 2016

Following Tuesday’s election results, DFER-Louisiana State Director Eva Kemp released the following statement:

“We’re deeply disappointed with the results of the election, but regardless of who is in the White House, DFER’s commitment to fighting for progressive education reform policies and the Democratic leaders who will continue to put our students first, both here in Louisiana and across the nation, will never waver. The simple fact is that nobody knows quite what a Trump presidency will hold, and we sincerely hope that President-elect Trump can put aside the rhetoric, rise to the occasion, and do all he can to bridge the deep divides in our nation by listening to our kids and families and by putting their needs first. In the meantime, we will be doubling down on our important mission on behalf of our kids, including advancing quality public school choice for more families across the state. Trump’s version of “school choice”, however, bears zero resemblance to the progressive and inclusive policies that are working for kids here in Louisiana.”
