“We are hopeful that in this position, Governor Edwards puts a premium on student interests”
Baton Rouge, La. – Following Governor John Bel Edwards’ election to chair the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) on Sunday, DFER Louisiana Democrats for Education Reform Louisiana state director, Eva Kemp, released the following statement:
“We would like to congratulate Governor Edwards on being elected to chair the SREB. We are hopeful that in this position, Governor Edwards puts a premium on student interests by promoting high-quality public education options, increasing standards and accountability, and expanding access for every student no matter their zip code.
“Louisiana has seen significant progress over the last several years; test scores and graduation rates are up and more students are going to college. DFER looks forward to working alongside the Governor and his staff to ensure the Governor utilizes his new leadership position to push toward educational excellence across the state and encourage other members of the SREB to do the same.”
