FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Democrats for Education Reform Congratulates Erika Beltran on Board of Education Runoff Victory
DALLAS, TX – May 27, 2014 – Democrats for Education Reform Texas (DFER-TX) issued the following statement today from State Director Jennifer Koppel lauding Erika Beltran’s victory in the primary runoff election to represent District 13 on the Texas State Board of Education:
“For a district that has had the same State Board of Education representative for over a decade, Erika’s victory is a decisive step toward prioritizing good policy. The 15 members of the board are responsible for ensuring a quality education for millions of Texas schoolchildren, and no candidate took that mandate more seriously than Erika.
“Similar to when they elected Ramon Romero as state representative in March, voters in the Dallas-Fort Worth area have demonstrated they want change in Austin. As a policymaker, Erika will be a true representative of her district’s next generation. A child of immigrants and the first member of her family to go to college, she understands what a good education can mean for Texas kids – and what’s more, she knows how to get us there.
“I am confident that Erika will bring much-needed, fresh perspective to the board, and that her unique background and experiences will help guide her fellow representatives in making the right decisions about Texas’ education system. I congratulate her on a well-deserved victory and I look forward to seeing what she will bring to kids in Texas.”
