Democrats for Education Reform Indiana Grades State Legislators’ Actions on Ed Reform Policy
Releases Indiana Legislator Report Cards

Indianapolis, Indiana, June 27th, 2013 – Democrats for Education Reform Indiana (DFER-IN) released its “DFER-INtake: Legislator Assessment” evaluating state legislators’ actions relative to education reform bills in the 2013 General Assembly, organization officials announced today.

“Voters need to know if their state and district representatives are making decisions in the best interest of Indiana’s K-12 students,” said DFER-IN State Director, Larry Grau. “Our hope is that this report will act as a resource for Hoosier voters to better understand where their representatives stand on issues impacting the quality of education received by our state’s kids.”

The assessment highlights five Democratic legislators at the top of the class in the Indiana General Assembly when it comes to making decisions that are best for the Indiana’s students. Legislators receiving top marks include: Senator Earline Rogers (SD-3), Senator John Broden (SD-10), Representative Justin Moed (HD-97), Representative Christina Hale (HD-87), and Representative Steven Stemler (HD-71).

“Education impacts every aspect of our society from the stability and future of Indiana’s economy to our crime rates and dollars spent on public assistance,” continued Grau. “For this reason, we must keep a watchful eye on our legislators’ actions relative to education policy. This report will help Hoosiers determine if their legislators acted in the best interest of kids or choose a different path toward what they thought was safer politically?”
