The Colorado State Board of Education has been hearing misinformation from a small but loud group of people who oppose the Colorado Academic Standards—new higher learning expectations aligned with the Common Core.

Here in Colorado we have developed our own standards in 10 academic areas – aligning them to Common Core in English and math. These expectations identify what a student should be learning each year, focusing on real life application of knowledge and skills, not just memorization; And, they ensure our kids are prepared for whatever path they choose after high school, whether it’s college or a career.

We live in a different world today than we did 30 years ago and we need to protect these standards to help our students live up to the new expectations of a globally connected and technological world.
