Federal Regulation and Oversight in ESSA
Today, more than 50 civil rights organizations urged Acting Secretary John King to adhere to ESSA as a civil rights law and to implement ESSA in a way that recognizes that the federal government has a vital role in promoting educational opportunity for all students, especially for: girls and boys of color; English Learners; students with disabilities; Native American students; low-income students; those who are migrant, homeless, in foster care or returning from or placed in juvenile detention; and those who are LGBTQ.
